The 12th Air Task Force commander, Col. Gabriel S. Arrington, was relieved of command on January 30, 2025 by the Air Mobility Command deputy commander, Lt. Gen. Rebecca Sonkiss, due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command, following an internal investigation that revealed misconduct inconsistent with command responsibilities.

“The 12th ATF is on the leading edge of the Air Force’s transformation. The Air Force needs this unit laser-focused on developing a highly lethal, disciplined, unified, and ready force,” Sonkiss said. “We hold all Airmen accountable for their actions, especially those holding positions of command.”

The mission of the 12th ATF is to serve as the Air Force’s ready unit of action for competition and combat. They focus on training and certifying 2,500 Airmen for deployment through the Force Generation cycle, ensuring that our teams are cohesive and mission-ready.

Lt. Col. Jonathan Hoefing, formerly the 12th ATF deputy commander, will serve as interim commander.

No further information is releasable at this time.
